What will happen when the Village Hall is sold?

By Gordon Joly, 10 September 2010

The cutbacks in Hammersmith & Fulham have resulted in a threat to voluntary and 3rd sectors services. Seven buildings are to be sold, and grants have already been cut to local charities. The news that Nick Clegg ended up with egg on his face during a visit to the Village Hall (Shepherd's Bush, just off Wood Lane, London, W12) has already been reported (by the BBC) but there are many more stories to tell. Th economic downturn has already affected local people and community groups, and the Council has used the debt as an excuse to sell buildings (debt is managed by most Councils in the country as part of their business planning).

We have started a petition, and launched a website.

The Council seems to have made up its mind. What will happen when the Village Hall is sold and then demolished, we assume, to build a modern building, right next door to Westfield Shopping Centre?

If the Council's mantra of "people not buildings" could make any sense at all, then why build a new library????? The new library is next to the Village Hall in Wood Lane, and the old Passmore Edwards Library in Uxbridge Road (two minutes walk) remains empty and unused.
