Or send an email to researchforum@courtauld.ac.uk for further information. Organised by: Anna Lovatt (Henry Moore Fellow, Courtauld Institute), Alex Coles (Surrey Institute of Design) and Alison Green (Central St Martins) Further information: This one-day symposium identifies a field of study of vital interest to the current generation of scholars, which has nonetheless been a blind spot in art historical scholarship. By focusing on artistic production on the East Coast of the US between 1960-63 — a part of the decade previously ignored in favour of what Fredric Jameson has called the “Greater Sixties” — the conference accounts for the activity specific to the period between Abstract Expressionism and Neo-Dada on the one hand, and Pop and Minimalism on the other. Some contributors reconsider renowned figures such as Ad Reinhardt, while others bring previously neglected artists including Ruth Vollmer and Myron Stout to the foreground. With her work on the sixties, and more recently Clement Greenberg, the American art historian Caroline A. Jones provides the keynote address for the conference. |
