[Mute-social] [Fwd: Fwd: Proposal: Video makers gathering 2006]

Ok, this is a proposal for a UK video makers gathering to be hosted at
rampART in January.

The plan would be a weekend long event consisting of skill sharing
workshops, presentations, private screenings and discussion. At the end
of the event there would be a publicly advertised screening of the
work and a bit of a knees up social.

Another possible outcome would be a DVD showcase of everyones work as a
promo and how-to that would hopefully be used to raise the profile of
radical film making in the UK and encourage more people to have a go.

Workshops/presentations obviously depend on what people have to offer
and what people would like to take part in but some suggestions include
:
+ Flash, including using it as a wrapper for online films,
+ How to author DVDs,
+ subtitling technologies
+ The european newsreel
+ video editing in linux
+ getting better sound
+ How to get by using unfamiliar editing software.
+ quick turn-around editing for the web
+ whats new... online tv and other advances we should know about
+ how to edit non editable formats such as clips from DVDs
+ and everyones favorite - screenings, distribution and which codec ;-)

Some of the workshops would be filmed with the aim of producing some
kind of video how-to guide.

Films screened would be people own projects shown in order to get
constructive comments from other people and discuss methodology etc. A
schedule would be drawn up in advance.

The public screening would be sunday afternoon/evening and consist of a
wider selection of radical films chosen by consensus.

So, that's the idea...

Accommodation and food would be be provided at the rampART for the
duration. It would be free (donations welcome of course to cover
unavoidable costs).

There is a projector, seating for 80 people and total blackout for
daytime viewing. There are a couple of PC based video editing machines
available (one windows, one linux) and perhaps we could set up a mac as
well.

About 10 to 20 people would probably be the ideal number of people.
What we need from you is preferred dates and the likelihood that you
would come.

The possible dates are:
1st wk = 7th 8th 9th
2nd wk = 14th,15th,16th (includes pre-arranged saturday night event
called Concretemass)
3rd wk = 21st, 22th, 23th (includes a benefit gig till midnight friday
night)
4th wk = 28th,29th,30th

Please let us know which you could make in order of preference.

Please also pass this email onto anyone else you know who is involved
or would like to be involved in radical video projects.

Please suggest and volunteer for workshops.

Please email us with a list of your skills - eg. what editing software
you use, etc.
