Mute Publishing is looking for a part time Sales manager Publishers' Blog
Mute Publishing is looking for a part time Sales manager to work in its

London-based office two days per week, with scope for an increase.

Salary £20K pro rata

Mute magazine is a long established title offering critical analysis of

'Culture and politics after the Net'. Since 1994 it has discussed the
interface of art and digital media, questioning new technologies'
liberatory promise via analyses of subjects with which they are
associated (recent examples being 'creative cities', free software, the

financial system and global art market).

Sales and marketing activity started receiving dedicated attention in
Spring of this year, when a post concentrating on these areas was
created. Now this post is free again, we are seeking to build on
established better awareness to focus more specifically on sales (of
the
magazine, advertising and subscriptions).

First and foremost, the Sales manager must display vision and
understanding of how to present Mute to a variety of national and
international clients. Whilst it is a specialist magazine, dramatic web

readership increases suggest a substantial client base can be built
across international markets – for example in education. Hence, the
candidate should have working knowledge of the institutions, agencies
and organisations to which the magazine's content is relevant and be
confident explaining why.

This post is relatively new, granting the candidate significant scope
to
shape Mute's strategies in this area. Mute itself is at an exciting
stage of its development: new US distribution deals have recently been
secured and European ones are under discussion; a peer-to-peer offline
distribution network is under construction and a series of editorial
sister projects are introducing Mute to new audiences. The last years
have seen us move into print consultancy and software development; for
the right person sales work in these areas will be a logical next step
and can in due course be added to magazine responsibilities.

The directors, Editorial and Technical teams will be direct colleagues
in our small organisation. Excellent communication, teamwork and
multitasking skills are paramount.

To apply, please send us your CV and a covering letter explaining why
you think you are right for the job to:

Mute, Unit 9, The Whitechapel Centre, 85 Myrdle Street, London E1 1HQ
Email: pauline@metamute.org, Tel: +44 (0)20 7377 6949

DEADLINE Monday 12th November for interviews later that month and a
December start.

Candidates seeking to familiarise themselves with our projects should
visit:

opportunities employer.
