Transmission: Speaking and Listening

Transmission: Speaking and Listening is an annual series of lectures in
collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. Leading and emerging
artists from the UK and abroad discuss their work in relation to a
particular theme with an audience of students and the public. This
season’s talks are themed around 'Working from the Collection. Talks
take place at the Showroom Cinema at 4pm on Wednesday

January 31st -Simon Faithful

Simon Faithfull has shown widely, and currently lives in Berlin. He
currently has a touring exhibition based on work made during an Arts
Council Fellowship to Antarctica. His book Ice Blink: An Antarctic Essay
is published as part of Book Works Opus Projects (Opus 6) by Book Works
and The Arts Catalyst. www.simonfaithfull.org

March 14th - Symposium Lucy Reynolds Dany Nobus Lisa Le Feuvre

Lucy Reynolds is an artist, writer, independent film programmer and
Content Manager for LuxOnline. Her current research as a PhD student at
the University of East London explores the expanded cinema events of
Gill Eatherley, Annabel Nicolson and Lis Rhodes. She has curated
numerous screening of artists film and video since the late 1990s, her
recent film programme, Describing Form, exploring the relationship
between film and sculpture, has toured museums and galleries across
Britain, from Tate Britain to Spacex, Exeter and the Henry Moore
Institute. Recent publications include 'Margaret Tait: The Marks of
Time' in Subjects and Sequences: A Margaret Tait Reader and 'Found
Footage Film: The World in Fragments' in Ghostings: The Role of the
Archive in Contemporary Artists Film and Video. She teaches the history
and theory of artists moving image at the University of Westminster, the
University of Derby and Birbeck College.

A world-renowned authority on the history, theory and practice of
Lacanian psychoanalysis, Dany Nobus is Professor of Psychology and
Psychoanalysis at Brunel University (London), where he is Head of the
School of Social Sciences, and Director of the MA Programme in
Psychoanalysis and Contemporary Society. He is also an Adjunct Professor
of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a Visiting
Professor of Psychiatry at Creighton University Medical School in Omaha
NE. His research interests centre around issues of clinical
psychoanalytic work, with a special emphasis on technical matters, and
debates concerning the development, acquisition and transmission of
knowledge. His most recent books include the edited collection Key
Concepts of Lacanian Psychoanalysis (The Other Press, 1999), Jacques
Lacan and The Freudian Practice of Psychoanalysis (Routledge, 2000) and
Knowing Nothing, Staying Stupid: Elements for a Psychoanalytic
Epistemology (with Malcolm Quinn) (Routledge, 2005).

Lisa Le Feuvre is a curator and writer based in London. She is Curator
of Contemporary Art at the National Maritime Museum and teaches on the
Curatorial Programme at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her recent
curatorial projects include Avalanche 1970 – 1976 (2005 - Chelsea Space,
London); Dennis Oppenheim: Recall (2006 - MOT, London); Simon Faithfull:
Ice Blink (2006 - Stills, Edinburgh; Cell Project Space, London and
Parkers Box New York); Dan Holdsworth: At the Edge of Space, Parts 1- 3
(2006 - National Maritime Museum, London); and the forthcoming Lawrence
Weiner: Inherent in the Rhumb Line (2006 - National Maritime Museum,
London). Her recent writing projects include publication essays on Yto
Barrada, Chris Burden, Esther Shalev-Gerz, Wolfgang Weileder and Cerith
Wyn Evans (all 2006).
