/“A brilliantly bizarre spoof of our self-help industry and the artist’s
supposedly therapeutic role within it, ‘With’ is the most original
artists project in Britain today.” /KULTUREFLASH

Plymouth Arts Centre presents the first UK solo exhibition of *with*
(withyou.co.uk).

Resting somewhere between live art, satire and corporate presentation,
*with* (withyou.co.uk) appropriate the distinct visual language of
business. The business is not ‘real’ and is not ‘fake’ – it instead
retains the autonomy of an art practice, enabling the enterprise to take
decisions and create products that rest outside conventional corporate
parameters.

Through an ironic use of media language *with* entangle the
contradictions shared by art and business to create a series of absurd
products and services or in *with *speak /Life Enhancement Solutions/
/(LES’s)./ Examples of such services include /Traumaformer/ where *with*
agents create and experience on your behalf a new and more traumatic
personal history and /Violentome/ where an agent will assume your
identity and perform delegated violent acts. For the full range of
*with* products please visit their website at withyou.co.uk.

Plymouth Arts Centre has commissioned *with* to produce a new series of
work as part of the Artist and Curators Residency Programme. The
exhibition will illustrate the production of a *with* product from
conception to completion, examining how the company develops and
generates a /Violentome/ /Life Enhancement Solution (LES)/, for client
Stephen Humphries*.

*with (withyou.co.uk) Press Release Statement
*
At *with* our mission is simple: We aim to create products that offer
time saving solutions for personal growth and individual development by
offering our client community /Biographical Plugs/ that render solutions
to the dissatisfaction, frustrated ambition and spiritual void of
contemporary life. Our agents are highly trained in a variety of
/Identity Extension Techniques/ and through the combined power of WITH
WATER they can imagineer and facilitate a full range of bespoke /Life
Enhancement Solutions/ for your pleasure.

We are delighted to be offering /Plymouth Arts Centre/ the opportunity
to work with us on our 2007 /Corporate Residency Community Recruitment
Outreach RE:Branding Initiative Drive/ by RE-presenting a */violentome/*
LES received by our former client Stephen Humphries. It seems
particularly suitable as Stephen is originally from Plymouth and his
final LES experience was staged at a pub in the City.

Please feel free to visit our current website _http://www.withyou.co.uk/
_ and if you have any questions about our
products and services please hesitate to contact us on _info@withyou.co.uk_.

/“With get to the heart of art’s problematic relation to the
entertainment industry and dissect the twisted belief systems and
economic ideals of Western society. They’re also funny.” /Jennifer Thatcher

*
*· PAC have commissioned *with* as part of the visual arts
programme and curatorial programme titled /Slow/ in 2007. PAC’s new
programme is committed to developing new work with artists at the
beginning of their careers.

· PAC has a particular interest in artwork that engages with human
interaction and social context, and places a special emphasis on
process-based practices. PAC plays a distinctive role in the cultural
regeneration of the city as an independent space for the visual arts and
film.*
*
· Throughout the year, the 2007 programme explores the idea of
/Slowness/ as critical method and metaphor for contemporary art and
curatorial practice; as metaphor, /Slowness/ is evocative: from
reference to the /slow movement/; slow food in opposition to fast food;
the tortoise as a parody of social progress or snail mail as opposed to
e-mail. By slowing things down, critical reflection is made more
possible in contrast to the speed of change represented by urban
regeneration and wanton consumer capitalism.

Emphasis is placed on process, interaction and participation in
contemporary art through slow and sustainable working processes and by
rethinking cultural regeneration and sustainable development.

Within the changing landscape and context of the City of Plymouth,
*Plymouth Arts Centre* presents a new programme of exhibitions, artists
and curatorial residencies, public art commissions, education and
outreach activities, workshops, and talks.
