Samir Kassir (1960 – 2005) was one of Lebanon ’s best-known journalists
and historians. ‘Being Arab’ is an exploration of the current political
and intellectual stagnation of the Arab world in which Samir Kassir
considers the huge impact of modernity on the region and the
accompanying shockwaves that turned society upside-down.

‘Being Arab’ recently received the Index on Censorship Freedom of
Expression Award 2007
