Games and Internet are gradually replacing television as children's favorite media. How can media makers use games and game culture in cross-media productions for children?
If you can't beat them, join them.
In this 5-day workshop, Mediamatic will bring professional media makers, producers from broadcasters and production companies up-to-date on game culture and will provide makers with the tools to incorporate game aspects in cross-media projects.
CONTENT & END RESULTS
During the workshop,which will take place during the annual Cinekid Festival, all participants will build a prototype of their crossmedia game project for children and develop and visualize its user scenarios. They will be guided by the trainers Friedrich Kirschner (DL), Daniel van Gils (NL), Julian Oliver (NZ) and Klaas Kuitenbrouwer (NL)
All participants will learn the basic principles of creating machinima, of designing 3D game spaces, and of developing gameplay and game rules.
Participants will also learn about trends in game culture such as massive multi-player games and new kinds of game interfaces like the Nintendo Wii. They will watch and analyse a number of interesting cross media project, from the BBC and Endemol for example. Next to this, participants will learn about the new web culture of creating, matching and sharing user-generated content, that is very influential in game culture..
The Cinekid Festival media seminars are included. On 21 October the results of the workshop will be presented during a public presentation at the Cinekid Festival.
