28/06/2007 - 12:00pm 04/08/2007 - 6:00pm Etc/GMT MARCUS COATES: DAWN CHORUS PICTURE THIS Exhibition An acclaimed human recreation of the dawn chorus will be at Picture This’ new space for contemporary artists’ film and video in Bristol, from 29 June until 04 August 2007. Dawn Chorus, by artist Marcus Coates, uses unique digital methods to explore the relationship between birdsong and the human voice, drawing out previously unexplored similarities between the behaviour of birds and humans. Dawn Chorus is the latest and most ambitious project by artist Marcus Coates produced by Picture This and supported by the Wellcome Trust. Coates’ multi-screen installation recreates the dawn chorus using humans to sing the birdsong. It continues Coates’ ongoing investigations of cross-species consciousness and attempts to become birds, animals or marine mammals. Coates presents a unique look at human behaviour and society through the recreation of an alien world. Picture This produces visual arts projects harnessing its unique understanding of moving image technology and contemporary culture. Picture This’ new flexible Atelier space engages a range of artists, collaborators and audiences through production, education, exhibition and events. Preview Picture This + 44 (0)117 9257010 |
