On the Road to Kandahar represents a journey of human encounters with hundreds of people, ranging from refugees to government ministers, from American snipers to "mujahideen". In this book Burke explores the ideologies and myths that have often determined the interaction of the West and Islam. He also looks at the modern media and the reality of modern war and seeks to answer the question of how best we can understand Islam and Islamic radicalism. Jason Burke is a prize winning Chief Reporter for the Observer. He has covered the Middle East and southwest Asia for a decade. He is also the author of Al - Qaeda: The True Story of Radical Islam.
