20/04/2007 - 12:00am 30/05/2007 - 12:00pm Etc/GMT GREEN ISLAND 2007 A project by: aMAZElab, Milan In collaboration with: Centostazioni, Alessi Museum PRESENTATION: FRIDAY 20th APRIL 2007 Over the last five years, for the duration of the Salone del Mobile e dell’Arredo Urbano, the cultural lab aMAZE has presented the project GREEN ISLAND, aimed at valorising public space in the area around Garibaldi Station and via Pepe in Milano. The event includes arts and crafts workshops, design and architecture’s studios, proposing ad hoc urban installations. For the 2007 edition, in collaboration with Alessi Museum, aMAZElab presents a hanging garden project for the new Garibaldi Station. The idea is based on the proposal of a Green Oasis for the floor above the station entrance hall. The hanging garden project – first example in Italy of a green space in a railway area – would make it possible to turn an important hub of Milanese and North Italian transport, Garibaldi Station, into a real agorà . The project for the creation of the Green Oasis has been commissioned to the well-known Italian architect and designer ANDREA BRANZI, who has been working for many years on designing new garden spaces for the city, little corners for break or meeting, urban oases, green islands. Furthermore, on platform 20 there will also be a number of new projects created by young artists and designers, which the public will be able to see during the opening, turning the Railway Station once more into an exhibition and aggregation space, as well as an original ‘Design Gallery’.
