18/10/2006 - 12:00pm 10/11/2006 - 8:00pm Etc/GMT Golden (Lessons) a Beaconsfield Research project 18 October – 10 November 2006 Ballroom and song are recurring motifs in Golden (Lessons), a research residency that expands on susan pui san lok’s ongoing project, Golden, exploring themes of nostalgia, cultivation and aspiration in diaspora. Unfolding over four weeks, Lessons is structured within Beaconsfield’s long-established live residency tradition, punctuated by a series of on- and off-site events and interventions. Visitors are invited to participate as students and performers of song and dance: as part of an impromptu chorus led by composer Mat Davidson, or improvised ‘lessons’ led by dancer/choreographers Jenevieve Chang and Annie Pui Ling Lok. Enthusiasts are welcome to join the ‘Mobile Chorus’ and Mobile Ballroom’, experiments in nostalgia and engineered spontaneity, that take inspiration from the ‘mobile clubbing’ phenomenon and the idea of the ‘spontaneous musical number’. Previous work from the Golden series will be exhibited and a new work - Golden Hour - developed for broadcast on Resonance 104.4fm as the residency draws to a close. Closing Events Friday 10 November 4.19 – 8pm Lessons will be accompanied and documented by an e-book made available as both unlimited download and limited Beaconsfield/spsl edition. Beaconsfield Research assists artists in developing their ideas, offering a public platform for work in progress. Beaconsfield is financially supported by Arts Council England.
