Fragments: realism, ritualism, fetishism by Michelle Considine
OpenPublishing |
Submitted by one gallery on Monday, 12 February, 2007 - 20:04
28/02/2007 - 7:00pm 30/03/2007 - 5:00pm Etc/GMT Fragments is the eight instalment in one gallery's ‘Maiden Solo Show’ series of exhibitions showcasing artists emerging on the Irish scene. Considine’s work shows fragments of unfolding female experience and circumstance – sexual, crass, vulnerable, inane, innocent and playful. Filtered through a broad spectrum of female imagery and iconography, and referencing art history, contemporary society and popular as well as sub-culture, the work reflects the rituals and fetishes, constraints and liberties of emerging womanhood. The images are charged by the expressions, gestures and poses of the subject and her surroundings, or traces of her presence. They offer an array of interpretations, allow us to explore the object as subject, and inspire a variety of narrative possibilities. She studies her counterparts with wit and empathy delighting in the wonderful freedoms the current youth generation enjoys yet also alluding to the sometimes crass and psychologically destructive side of Western culture. Michelle graduated in 2003 with a BA in Fine Art IADT Dún Laoghaire. Previous & upcoming exhibitions include: The A-Z of Drawing – The White Room Galway, summer ’05; RHA Annual Exhibition, summer 06 and RHA Gala Auction, Nov ’06; Drawing is a Verb Drawing is a Noun – Stone Gallery, Dec 06; Conspirators of Pleasure – La Catedral, Dec ’06; 4’ x 4’, The White Room Galway, April ’07; RHA Annual Exhibition(invited), summer ’07.
