Metropolis TV lounge.
Since its launch in the mid-1980's Metropolis, a weekly 25 minute contemporary art and culture programme, has featured emerging Spanish and international artists from all fields and aired their work on Spanish Public Television (TVE - Television Española). This exhibition shows highlights from over 900 programmes spanning 20 years selected by the show's Editor Maria Pallier, which will screen in a gallery turned lounge.

The Van Abbemuseum is one of the leading museums for modern and contemporary art in Europe. Since the opening in 1936, we have shown many acclaimed exhibitions and built an extensive, internationally renowned collection of more than 2700 works of art. The collections reputation is due to the quality of the individual works of art, among which are masterpieces by Picasso, Chagall, El Lissitzky, Beuys, Weiner, Gordon and McCarthy.

‘Triangle of Need' is a multi-channel video installation, in which Catherine Sullivan orchestrates a complex set of ideas and participants to weave a nuanced story about evolution, class, wealth and poverty, and the inequalities and injustices in our global economy.

Studying networks foregrounds infrastructure, negotiations, processes, strategies of interconnection, and the heterogeneous relationships between people and things. Networks can include people, social groups, artefacts, devices, entities and ideas.

From January 27th to the 16th of March 2008, 10 artists from 7 different countries will land in the Mediamatic exhibition space in Amsterdam. Every week an artist will bring their own friends in for visits. A project on identity, feeling at home, being foreign and meeting each other. And the start of a new dating site.

 01 February – 30 March 2008 Gallery 1&2, Media Lounge and public spaces at FACT Free entry Artists including ORLAN, Wim Delvoye, Zbigniew Oksiuta, Tissue Culture and Art (see right Victimless Leather) and Yann Marussich will be in Liverpool as sk-interfaces, FACT’s first major exhibition of 2008, opens at the beginning of February. A groundbreaking exhibition exploring the intersection of art, science, philosophy and social culture, sk-interfaces looks at, materially and metaphorically, the concept of skin as a technological interface. This multi-disciplinary exhibition launches FACT's Human Futures programme. A conference will be held on 08-09 February with international experts discussing some of the issues raised through the exhibition. An exhibition dealing with subjectivity and memory featuring Chosil Kil's "Living with Andis", an installation that includes pen-knifed furniture, embroidery, a long-form poem, photographs and film. This show will also include artists from Austria and Switzerland.

The Art of Rent

As part of an ongoing collective project, the organisers of this seminar series seek to promote a discussion on the rise of rent as a form of capitalist appropriation and the way that new levels of association in the arts and culture, in information and communication, in public taste and ambience have made this rise possible, and from the perspective of private accumulation, necessary. To this end, the seminar brings together various perspectives on the Art of Rent taking in analysis of cognitive capitalism, of the financialisation of the quotidian and the bodily, of gentrification and the metroversity, of new international division of labour and of governance. The seminar will conclude with a special two-day event in September on the cultural industries.
