Simon Worthington Dyne:bolic 2.1 - code name DHORUBA - has been released on Metamute's Public Library Bittorrent server http://pl.metamute.org. You can visit the Public Library, download the file and run it live on your computer's CD drive without effecting your existing OS. Dyne:bolic contains all the tools you need for creating and distributing, video, audio and multimedia works.
> Picture credit Dhoruba Bin Wahad URL http://mediafilter.org/shadow/S36/S36.DBW.html The software has been in development by Dyne.org where the main rasta coder Jarolmil is helped by the puredyne https://puredyne.goto10.org/ posse and many others. Dyne:bolic represents the cutting edge in FLOSS media arts production tools. It demonstrates its message against capitalist media by giving us (and that very consciously includes lo-spec tech users) the tools to create without buying into the consumerist economic model of the computer industry, where each new software package or upgrade creates the imperative to upgrade hardware too. On the live GNU/Linux CD there are a set of programs for multimedia, including the video editor Cinelerra, the graphics tools Inkscape and Scribus for illustrations and DTP. There are also scripting and development tools; many novel features to help you manage and share your work easily have been included. To name a few, the software covers peer2peer, filesharing, web browsing, word processing, CD burning, email, encryption and anonymity tools. The Dyne:bolic 2.0 download can be burned onto a CD to make a LiveCD. (If you're not familiar with the concept of a LiveCD, it's a GNU/Linux operating system on a CD which will start up from your CD drive when you reboot your machine without affecting your computer's files or system. An additional feature to this live CD is that it allows you to create a storage section, called a Nest, on you hard disk or USB key.
Dyne doesn't stop there, as an accompanying manual has been placed online taking you through the different programmes, including instructions on command line video encoding and well researched bench mark tests on CODEC use for different video contexts; screenings, low bandwidth downloads and more. The manual contains research that came out of work carried out by Jaromil with Montevideo http://www.montevideo.nl/nl/ in the Netherlands on artists video work and CODEC use. The full conclusions of this action research will be updated in the manual at a later date. Manual: http://dynebolic.org/manual/ :: CONTRIBUTE TO DYNE:BOLIC !
